A New York musical partnership
Kaiser Cartel was formed in 2004 by songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Courtney Kaiser and Benjamin Cartel. The duo developed an intimate indie-folk sound around interlocking voices, acoustic textures, and arrangements that could feel surprisingly expansive for two performers.
The project became known for its resourceful live setup. Rather than reproducing a conventional band format, Kaiser and Cartel shifted between instruments and roles, allowing rhythm, melody, and harmony to move naturally between them.
